Gift Wrapping with GHU Felt Blooms

As I work to finish up my long overdue shop updates, I have also been working on projects for a GHU Ideas section I plan on adding to my blog. It will feature different project ideas, using my Felt Blooms. I used Nate's recent birthday as an opportunity to showcase the blooms as gift wrap accents, as well as how flowers can still be manly. 

I wrapped the first package with kraft paper and used some pom-pom trim, a DC-3 (the airplane) printed on fabric paper, some tickets, washi tape and two of the smaller blooms from my GHU Boys Rugby Club Blooms.

I wrapped the trim in an asymmetrical fashion. The aircraft is clipped down and the Blooms are simply tucked into the trim. I really love the look and dimension all the layers add to the simple background. 

On the second package, I used a doilie, scrap of trim, manila tag, Thickers, baker's twine and a large bloom from my Tropics Blooms. 

For this package, I quickly layered up the embellishments and tied them off with the baker's twine. The Bloom is attached with a glue dot. I ended up saving all the elements from this package to create a birthday page for my scrapbook. An easy way to get twice the use out of the Bloom and other items!

So what did Nate think of his gifts adorned with flowers and other frills that usually lend themselves to girlishness? Well, they got a passing grade from him; although, I think he prefered the airplane and Boy's Rugby Club Blooms over the doilie and pink Tropics Bloom :)

Remember a fun little shop called Green Horned Unicorn? Well, it’s back in business folks! After a brief hiatus, I’m happy to announce my Etsy shop is restocked with oodles of lovely felt goodies! What will you find? Lots of beautiful felt blooms of course! Plus many other goods like embellishment kits, grab bags, and felt bouquets…all handcrafted by yours truly (me!).

 

What’s even better about this update is the lower prices! I was able to source my product differently to save money, which is passed onto you and reflected in the new pricing structure. Another exciting creative week & a new opportunity!

I must say, I've been having a couple of really good weeks on the creative front. Like really, really good. Some weeks you spin your wheels, feeling that your creativity and hard work will never pay off. Then you have weeks where good things are spreading like wildfire. I most definitely prefer the weeks of wildfire!

In the past few weeks I've had my pages featured on a few sites, my shop featured, and just today found out that I was chosen to be a Creative Team Member at JessicaSprague.com! Can you believe it? I'm on a digital Creative Team! Can I get a "Woohoo" from the crowd?!

As I'm sure you've noticed in my project credits, JessicaSprage.com is my favorite place to shop for digital scrapping supplies, so you can only imagine how excited I am to have the opportunity to play with so many great products from so many great designers! I'm giddy, to put it mildly!

I know a few of you may be wondering what will happen now that I'm on a Digital Creative Team. Am I going all digi? The answer is a big fat NO. I love paper, glue, paint and buttons far too much to go all digi. I plan on creating a good mix of digital, traditional, and hybrid projects to share with you here on the blog. You know, little something for everyone!

On another happy crafting note, I found out I won the September Challenge at the Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker Blog! The prize is a NS paper collection of my choice. I chose Something for Everyone. I can't wait to get my hands on it as I already have a project idea in mind! Thanks again Julie for sharing your NS product with me to make my projects and for telling me about the challenge!

And to wrap up my second wonderful creative week in a row, my Rainbowlicious Felt Bloom Garland was included in Etsy Treasury on Monday! Two Treasuries in two weeks...can this be for real?! Pinch me please! 

Needless to say, I'm bouncing off the walls from all of the excitement! I'm also itching for my Creative Team term to start so I can start cranking out some yummy digital goodness to share with all of you!

What a Girl Loves - Longing for Fall (plus a few features!)

Fall is in the air. Or so they say. Based on the 105 degree temperatures here in AZ this week, I would beg to differ. However, I'm optimistic that the heat will break and sweater weather will soon follow! To get myself in the mood for some fall weather, I headed over to the lovely land of Etsy and created a long overdue What a Girl Loves collection, inspired by fall of course!

A new item in the GHU Shop, a sponsorship and some inspiration

Whew! That's a lot to cover in one little post! First off, I thought I'd share a peek at a new item I added to the Green Horned Unicorn Shop this week, a Halloween inspired embellishment kit called Spooktacular:

The kits is full of fun Halloween colors, including orange, green, purple, black and white. Along with the usual flowers, ribbons and buttons, this kit also includes two fun little felt ghosts! I realize it's a little bit early for Halloween, but I couldn't help it! All of the fun decor taking over the stores was too much for me to handle. I had to get into the spirit! 

While we're on the topic of GHU Embellishment Kits, you have the opportunity to win a School Rules Embellishment Kit this week, along with some other spectacular prizes! Sketchy Thurdays is on week two of an Etsy blowout, with several Etsy sponsors each offering up a prize. The page it simply titled, Duluth, and showcases some snapshots from our recent trip. I used Bazzil cardstock along with some Basic Grey Offbeat papers along with some splattered paint, buttons and Thickers. It's really hard to see, but I journaled down the red strip of paper in black pen. It's much easier to see in real life!

I liked the results of the Duluth page so much, that I decided to create a digital version too:

This bright, colorful version is titled, Arizona Science Center, and highlights the fun day spent there with my sister, niece and nephew. For this page, I used Echo Park Walk in the Park, Elle's Studio, and Katie Pertiet cardstock. I love that Echo Park and Cosmo Cricket both now offer digi kits of their papers at JessicaSprague.com. So much FUN!  

You'll probably be seeing lots of digital pages of my niece and nephew in the future. Typically my sister and I each end up scrapping the same photos, me for my book, her for each of the kid's books. Kind of silly, right?! Especially when she has hundreds of other photos to keep up with too. So, being the wonderful sister/aunt I am *wink*, I decided to do all of my kid pages digi. That way, I can change out the journaling and upload them for my sister to print out and place in each of the kids albums. Its a fun reason for me to play with digi scrapping and a few pages my sis is saved from scrapping. 

Well, that's about it for today folks. I know I promised a new I Made This! this week; however, I didn't get the post finished in time...sorry! It's almost complete and scheduled to go up on Tuesday of next week, so be sure to keep your eyes open for it.
